Review of Coon Rapids, Iowa

Rural Arts
Star Rating - 11/13/2010
Small town Coon Rapids is a creative place with a growing "rural art" movement. Theatre productions over the last two years have included Farmscape by Iowa's Poet Laureate Mary Swander, and "Peace through Corn" by Iowa playwrite Cyndi Mercati. The town entryway is marked by a major outdoor sculture, "Hybrid Icons," by one of Iowa's premier public artists David Dahlquist. Many more public art sculptures can be found at Roadside Park and around town, and the Fluxus Indian Museum is hosted at the River House in the heart of Whiterock Conservancy. House concerts and intimate outdoor concerts, as well as an annual indoor Raccoon River Art Fair held each November, are well attended by local residents and visitors alike.
